A New Scholarship Honors the Legacy of Samir Kaibni (’58)

August, 2026: Ramallah Friends School is pleased to share news of a new scholarship established in memory of alumnus Samir Kaibni, created by his daughter Maysoon as a tribute to her father’s life and legacy.

Samir Kaibni was born in Ramallah, Palestine in Jan 1941. He graduated from Ramallah Friends School (RFS) in 1958. Soon after graduation, he began his career with the Hashemite Broadcasting Service as a news monitor in the Arabic News Department with offices in Ramallah and Amman.

His education at RFS gave him the English language skills that soon opened the door to English language broadcasting, an opportunity he later credited as foundational to his professional success.

After coming to the United States following the 1967 Six-Day War, he spent 20 years at the World Bank before retiring and returning to the field of language as an Arabic/English conference interpreter and simultaneous translator for other international organizations.

His career thus came full circle, from the English education he received at RFS, to his first work in broadcasting, and ultimately back to interpreting on an international stage. This scholarship honors the resilience, perseverance, and lifelong belief in the power of education and language that carried him from the first opportunity at RFS to an international career, with the hope that each recipient will be inspired to recognize the opportunities before them, overcome challenges, and pursue their own path with purpose and determination.

RFS is deeply grateful to Maysoon for this meaningful gift in her father’s name.
