Writing Club

Under the guidance and dedication of Friend-in-Residence Ann Procter, alongside the support of RFS teacher Elizabeth Tesdell, the Writing Club of RFS Upper Campus was established during the academic year 2021-2022. Remarkably, the club has successfully produced two editions of the school's literary and arts magazine, aptly named "The Poppy."

Commencing in the spring of 2022 and persisting throughout the entire academic year of 2022-2023, students gather after school in the Quaker Life/Writing Center to engage in writing activities prompted by their fellow students. These prompts span a diverse array of genres, encompassing memoirs, poetry, mysteries, and various other forms of expression. Following a dedicated 30-minute writing session, students who wish to do so are given the opportunity to share their work by reading their pieces aloud.

The Writing Club enthusiastically embraces students who possess a sincere ardor for writing and aspire to belong to a community of like-minded individuals. Notably, in May 2023, the club published the second volume of "The Poppy," which showcased exceptional writings and artwork from not only the upper-grade students but also the talented 5th-grade students.
