Lower School Principal's Welcome
“We believe that every learner can succeed and we seek to provide our students with the space, time, tools, and skills to openly express their feelings and gain perspectives."
—Frieda Dahdah Khayat, Principal, Lower School
Education is needed to maintain freedom and justice. It makes people easy to govern but impossible to enslave. Education allows all of us to continue growing as people and as a community. At the RFS Lower School (FGS) we develop life-long learners—our students are inquirers, thinkers, communicators, reflectors and risk-takers. We believe that every learner can succeed and we seek to provide our students with the space, time, tools, and skills to openly express their feelings and gain perspectives. They are given the opportunity to explore themselves and the world around them by sharing, experiencing and reflecting.
RFS students’ learning is not limited to the classroom—we enhance classroom learning through field trips, action-based activities and life experiences. Quaker values are embedded in all aspects of student learning and programming, as our students grow as individuals and as community members. Our unique problem-solving program incorporated in ethics classes along with the learning support department equip our students with communication and problem solving skills needed wherever they are and at all ages. Our programs and curricula broaden perspectives and enable students to appreciate all individuals in spite of differences.
We have a transdisciplinary curriculum organized around six themes based on the Primary Years Program of the International Baccalaureate. These themes interwoven with our Quaker values create a generation of learners who are agents of change in our society and have positive impact wherever life takes them. There is much more to be said about our school and I encourage you to explore our website and come visit our loving and caring community!
